Equity

Learning and Unlearning

The Coterie is committed to the practice of self study, quality and community. Self study is acknowledging and pushing against our own bias and facing our own privilege head on.

What I know now

As the owner of the studio, my privilege is tiered. I am white, cisgender, heterosexual and opening a studio on someone else’s land that honors someone else’s practice. I acknowledge that we are on the stolen land of Catawba, Waxhaw and Sugeree people, and I acknowledge the neighborhood gentrification that I am a part of.

I vow to continue to press up against my own bias, to break it apart and to help others do the same. I commit to representation in the studio from front desk to teachers, and I promise to listen intently to what you have to say.

The Coterie is committed to being a safe(r) space. Period.

Voices that are not mine will be priority, and community in its truest sense will always be at the center of my actions. The Coterie will honor where this practice came from and teach more than just postures. I am accessible by email and by phone, and when I say to not hesitate to reach out, to hold me accountable, I mean it.

Prices

NOT ONE PRICE FITS ALL

The sliding scale pricing of this studio isn’t meant to confuse anyone. It’s meant to make this practice more accessible than it would be if we charged one price.

Click here to learn about why we chose Sliding Scale Pricing.

Community: $95

If maintaining access to basic needs such as health care, housing, food and child care feel like a struggle, this pricing is for you. If you feel as though you’re living paycheck to paycheck or have significant debt, this pricing is for you.

Sustainer: $125

If you are not constantly thinking about maintaining your basic needs such as healthcare, housing, food, and childcare, this might be the option for you. If you have access to other personal financial resources, consider using those first before using the scale.

Supporter: $155

If you have access to financial security, own property or have personal savings, this price is for you. If you are able to pay for “wants” and spend little time worried about “needs” in your life, you have economic privilege and power in our community. This price would be for you.

If another option would suit you better, please reach out via email and we will find something that does. Always know that you are never stuck. We are happy to adjust the membership tier you are on at any point to better serve your needs.

Accountability

Accountability is at the heart of creating change.

I will hold myself and my team accountable for doing the internal work of breaking down personal bias, deconstructing the ego and holding space for everyone who chooses to be here. Without holding each other and ourselves accountable, nothing will change, and that is simply not an option.

A community with an accountability culture.

Along with The Coterie team, we will offer our students opportunities to learn and change through workshops and continuing education, and we will hold them accountable to do their part as well.

This mindset starts at the foundation, which is me.

If there is anything that I or we can do better, do not hesitate to reach out to hold me accountable, to offer ideas or simply ask questions. My personal information is below, and I truly hope that you use it.
